Choosing to be aware of how much water you use is one of those small steps to helping the planet, that is easy to implement.
Water is one of our most precious resources, so it’s a good idea for all of us change the way we approach it. We take for granted this never-ending resource that flows magically out of our taps.
Check for leaks.
A single dripping tap, over a year, can fill a swimming pool. The best way, is to check your water meter, first in the morning and then again at the end of a day when no one has been using water at home. There should be no difference in the reading. If there is, you have a leak.
Check your toilet cistern for leaks.
One of those blue tablets to clean the toilet, placed into your cistern will soon show any blue drips happening down the bowl. The fix is usually just the replacement of a washer.
Eco Wash
Most washing machines these days will have an eco-wash setting, it’s worth trying this out. Also, note the water rating sticker when you buy a new one.
Aerate your lawn
Stabbing it with a pitchfork on the weekend can be very therapeutic! Plus it will improve water absorption.
Turn off the tap
Make a conscious decision to turn off the tap while you brush your teeth or shave, and save up to 56 litres of water a day.
Don’t rinse!
Most dishwashers are designed to clean very dirty dishes so don’t worry to rinse every item before placing it in.
