Driven by consumer demand for environmentally friendly milk, several smaller New Zealand milk producers are choosing to sell their product in reusable glass bottles.
Stoke-based Oaklands Milk in Nelson, NZ, now sells its milk in glass bottles in several areas around Nelson using vending machines. You can purchase a 1 litre screw-top bottle and then fill it using a dispensing cabinet. Oaklands also supplies milk in glass bottles to supermarkets in Auckland, Wellington, Nelson and Christchurch under the premium Aunt Jean’s Dairy brand. Oaklands farmer Julian Raine says, “Glass bottles are better for the environment and better for the milk – it tastes a heck of a lot better in glass.” They are offering an authentic nostalgic approach to milk consumption and it follows an international trend towards reusable milk bottles.
