Composting is the quickest way to reduce what goes into the bin each week. Over 40% of our bins are made of food waste which doesn’t just easily decompose in those plastic bags we put it in. It can take up to a year for the food waste to properly break down, excluding the plastic of course and in this process, large amounts of CO2 gas is produced which contributes to global warming.
Our food has the ability to break down very easily in natural soil because of all the bugs that are perfectly designed to take care of it. It’s a missed opportunity that is right in our backyard. Your food scraps transform from waste to nourishment for the soil.
Not only do we reduce the amount of waste we produce out of our household and into the landfill, but we reduce the amount of plastic going into the environment (smaller and fewer bags of waste).
