Each time we eat our favourite fruit or enjoy a slice of morning toast and honey, we are enjoying the results of the hard work of bees.
Bees are a part of the growth of around 70 percent of the worlds crops and this means without bees, food production could drop by as much as a third. So they must be extremely protected right? Not at all, research shows a drastic decline in the number of bees on Earth.
So, what’s causing bees to die out? There are many reasons but the main culprits appear to be mass monoculture farming, intensive use of toxic pesticides and climate change. We can do something though in our own back yards.
