Why not save the planet and make money at the same time?
Simon Karlik was prompted to start his business in 2009 after witnessing the overflow of water bottles and coffee cups out of rubbish bins. The Sydney-based company, Cheeki, started out making stainless steel water bottles and eventually branched out to include reusable coffee cups. Today, his company has an estimated turnover of 3.5 million.
His business really took off after the television series War on Waste aired, highlighting Australia’s waste disposal issues. The program mentioned how Australians throw out over a billion coffee cups a year! There was an immediate spike in his business as people finally realised there was a choice to be made.
As more and more businesses realise you can support the planet and also make a buck at the same time, hopefully, we will move further in the right direction, towards a more sustainable future.
